Jaipur is a place that I have always wanted to visit. I have heard about the art, culture and shopping in Jaipur and it has always intrigued me.
About 6 months ago my husband and I decided it was time to visit. About the same time a couple from the East Coast, Sam and Nina, inquired with me about their wedding and wanted me to come to the East Coast and photograph their wedding day. After talking to them on the phone it was brought up in conversation that we would both be in India at the same time so we decided to take their engagement photos in India. I will share with you some behind the scenes photos of our engagement photo shoot soon.
My husband and I had about a couple of weeks to explore India and then one day of photographing for Sam and Nina. We started our trip in Bombay and then ended our trip in Jaipur. (more about Bombay in a later post) In Jaipur we stayed at the Fairmont. The hotel was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. Not a cloud in site and not too hot. The mornings were very peaceful and you could hear the birds chirping. My favorite thing in the morning was to see the wild parrots fly in the sky.
We spent a day enjoying the beauty of the hotel, relaxing by the pool and just taking some time to relax. The rest of our time there was spent shopping in the different districts and seeing what Jaipur had to offer. We hired a driver from the hotel to drive us and show us some popular spots. We went to a marble shop where the artisans were hand carving marble in the back. There were marble pieces of all sizes, from life size to small bowls and plates. We also saw local artisans making rugs by hand. They were hand weaving the rugs on a loom, then burning off the extra fibers. I would say that was my favorite thing we did while in Jaipur, it is one thing to see great works of art in a showroom, a hotel or store but it is whole different experience to see it being done by hand.
